SLEEP–WAKE & CIRCADIAN

Across the Body

The whole person, the whole 24 hours

Have you ever struggled to figure out what condition is driving the symptoms you are experiencing or what type of doctor might be able to help you? Alternatively, as a doctor or medical professional, have you struggled with putting the pieces together with a patient, and maybe even felt like you are letting your patient down by not having the answer?

In either circumstance, your confusion may be related to not considering all the day and night factors contributing to how well a person might be, regardless of baseline health. Of course, you know where we are going with this… sleep and circadian health are commonly overlooked but foundational elements to optimal health, wellness, and performance.

Fret no longer!

As the “knowledge hub,” we strive to fill these gaps–not only between day and night, but also across the body.

Our Across the Body educational resources are designed with you in mind, meaning that we will be continually growing, developing, and revising these resources. They will be works in progress, ensuring that we provide up-to-date, comprehensive, medically accurate information that reflects both day and night and all the circadian variables between. Raising awareness on the intersection between sleep and circadian science and your overall health and wellness is what motivates us to be the best at getting better for our community.

How can Across the Body help me?

Many people living with a medical, neurologic, or psychiatric condition also have a sleep-wake or circadian disorder (SWCD). Whether you have a medical, neurologic or psychiatric disorder, being aware of these SWCDs can help improve living with that condition, giving you a competitive edge. Learning about the SWCDs that you may be at risk for developing or having, including the associated signs and symptoms, and who to partner with when they arise, can help avoid unnecessary delays in achieving great comprehensive care.

If you are a person living with a known SWCD, you may be at higher risk for having or developing other medical, neurologic or psychiatric disorders, as well as possibly living with more than 1 SWCD. The presence of these other conditions may be relevant to choosing the optimal solutions for your treatment and achieving the outcomes that matter to you.

Life is not one-size-fits-all, and your health journey shouldn’t be either. Our goal is to educate and empower you with the information and tools to optimize your daily living and be active in the conversation with your medical team to get the best personalized solutions for your needs.

How Do I Use Across the Body?

Across the Body is designed to be continually updated with education materials organized by medical specialty. If you are a person living with a specific disorder, you will navigate to the specialty that generally manages that condition. In this area, you will find information about how the condition may look different across the day and what sleep or circadian patterns may exist related to that condition. We will also reference and include a growing number of external resources so that your learning can be limitless. Our goal is to fill the gaps along the way.

An example of using Across the Body:

What if the disorder I’m living with is not listed or I can’t find it?

Just like you, we are also a work in progress. If you can’t find the disorder that you’re looking for, please let us know. It is our goal to meet everyone’s needs. It is also an opportunity for us to continue getting better. In addition, if you find great resources available at other websites, please let us know. We are always looking for ways to collaborate to grow resources for anyone anywhere.

I am living with a specific disorder; however, the resources provided are not providing me any information about the specific concerns I have.

We always strongly recommend that you discuss any concerns that you have about your health and wellness with your medical team. If you can’t find the type of resource that would be helpful, please let us know so we may see if an opportunity exists to update our educational materials.
